Catenary Cable Tension

Catenary Cable Tension

Catenary Cable Tension

(OP)
Is the formula different to find the required cable tension for a multispan catenary cable as it is for a single span cable? All the books I have reference the tension force required for only single span cables.

RE: Catenary Cable Tension

haynewp,
1.  What size and type of cables are you talking about?
2.  What type of connections/supports will be at the tower/bents?
3.  How will the cable support the deck?

Sounds like a fun project.

RE: Catenary Cable Tension

Draw your free body diagram at the crown block and resolve forces from each span.

PM
