i need to apply freeze protection to a cylindrical hopper with a conical-shaped bottom.  the hopper contains iron ore pellets and is located outdoors where the temp drops to below -40 degrees.  the pellets freeze together in the winter, preventing feeding through the opening in the bottom.
some of the options i am looking at are heat tracing/tape, electric strip heaters, flexible heating mats, custom-shaped hydronic 'platecoils', etc.  I was just wondering if anyone has encountered this type of situation before and could offer some insight...
