Wood Partition at 33kV Substation

Wood Partition at 33kV Substation

Wood Partition at 33kV Substation

(OP)
Dear All,

I just found out that on one of our Substation has wood partition to seperate Switchgears and fiber optic junction boxes.

Is there any regulation about this, because in my opinion this is a fire hazard.

If some one out there could advise me the regulation i would be glad and certainly this wood partition will be remove.

thanks

RE: Wood Partition at 33kV Substation

Wire communication equipment is often mounted on wood boards to insulate remote ground from station ground.  Ground Potential Rise (GPR) is not a problem with fiber optic cables, but maybe it is a holdover from past telephone company standards.

RE: Wood Partition at 33kV Substation

The only MV equipment with wooden partitions I've seen is switchgear built before 1940 or so.

RE: Wood Partition at 33kV Substation

Most of our 15kV-isolated pilot wires for feeder differential protection (mainly translay) are in wooden cabinets, to maintain the isolation.  Maybe the fibre comms you have just replaced some old copper links which also had a high isolation level?
