Resin Infusion Info (the basics) wanted
(OP)
Hello,
I am new to the newsgroup and am wanting to see if anyone can direct me to web sites, literature, etc on the basics of Resin Infusion.
I have studied what I can find on vendor web sites, but I have not experienced very positive results. Main problems are poor flow through the reinforcement stack. I need help in selecting appropriate resin flow media, where to place injection points, injection hose size, and where to draw the vacuum from. Channels in foam vs. resin injectin channels on top of reinforcement stack, etc.
Any help and direction much appreciated.
Application is Marine.

Try the very helpful bunch at the Advance Composites Manufacturing Centre at Plymouth University (www.plymouth.ac.uk). They have a vast experience of resin infusion technology, working both as an academic research department and as a consultancy to range commercial companies. The group has a lot of marine experience also, as the new 'composites technology for marine enviroments' degree course will attest. No i don't work there, but have been to several seminars, and have been very impressed on every occasion.
Hope this helps,

RE: Resin Infusion Info (the basics) wanted
My company has been doing infusion for several years now using the SCRIMP process. We have found this process very effective for certain applications, however, we've begun recently to use the CARTM process. With the CARTM process, we've infused panels as thick as 4" and dimensions as big as 15' x 30'
The key is understanding the resin chemistry and the flow pattern.
Please visit the website at www.cartm.com and talk to Dr. Eric Lang or Dr. Rich Rydin - their phone numbers are on the website.
Hope this helps.
