Detailed Views?

Detailed Views?

Detailed Views?

(OP)
Hi,
I have created a detailed view that has a number of small features. I have run out of room for dimensions and would like to create a duplicate detailed view for additional dimensioning.
Is there a way to copy the detailed view or, is there a way to create another detail view without duplicating the "call-out" note and detail circle?
Ideally, I would like to have two identical detailed views and one call-out note.
Any suggestions?

Thanks in advance,

JW

RE: Detailed Views?

The only way I know you can have two detailed views for the same call-out note is to create your first detailed view, make it a snapshot (View --> Modify View --> Snapshot), and you’ll have a 2D view that is no longer related to the 3D model. After that make a copy of your 2D view (Tools --> Copy --> Translate --> Pick Many --> Select your whole view --> Done) and add the rest of the dimensions.

I think it’s easier to use two detailed views instead of one, and you’ll have also a link between your views and the 3D model.

im4cad,
Thanks for the reply.
I think you are right - just go with the two detail views and live with the two separate notes.....

RE: Detailed Views?

If I could throw in my 5 cents....wouldn't a VIEW/COPY VIEW function be great. The amount of times I've wanted to do that!

You could layer off the 2nd callout note and create a new note to label the view the same as the first detail view. Just remember to relate that note to the new view.

RE: Detailed Views?

JW, I think there is a workaround to solve your problem:

Save your drawing under a new name. Then make merge your drawing with this new one. Move the detailed view in question to your desired place/page and make it general view. Then change it from "general view" to "projection" and click on the master view. In this way you'll have both views detailed linked to a general view instead of having one view and a one snapshot view. And all dimensions will be in the drawing!

Then erase the unwanted pages (the merge).

I think it will take you less time then snapshot and move.

Good luck.

RE: Detailed Views?

I still think that having two different detailed views is better than having two with the same name which is confusing.

Thanks for all of the input guys!
I didn't think anyone would want to talk about drawing issues.

cheers!
