Slip ring motors

(OP)
Looking for descriptive information on LARGE slip ring motor applications. I am working on an install of a 5,000HP 4160V unit for a shredder line at a scrap yard. Anything would help to aid in my understanding of primary and secondary wiring, etc.

RE: Slip ring motors

I suggest you look for applications information at both the manufacturers of high capacity motors, and manufacturers of controllers for these types of motors (I assume it's three phase).

And then at the data and applications info from vendors of the power handling components used in the controller boxes.

RE: Slip ring motors

Rick1957, First off, you need to find out what type of slip ring motor you are talking about. A Wound Rotor asynchonous mtor or a Sychronous AC motor? Both use slip rings, but info is very different beyond that. Most likely you are referring to WR.
