Hi temp polymer, compression molded??

Hi temp polymer, compression molded??

Hi temp polymer, compression molded??

(OP)
I am looking for a polymer (thermoplastic, rubber...) that can withstand 85C intermittent, pH from 2-13, minimal creep, FDA approvable, that can be used in compression molding application.  Any assistance would be appreciated.

RE: Hi temp polymer, compression molded??

Tangodog,

Without knowing what exactly your application is I would suggest Acetal as a very suitable material for your application. I'm not exactly sure of its PH value or its suitability to the compression molding process but suggest that you contact DuPont and ask about their Delrin resins. They should be able to point you in the right direction. Alternatively you might want to go on to the Matweb site (www.matweb.com) and explore that resource for yourself.

Also, for a rubber compound consider Dupont Viton.

I could do this is urethane-- send details and i will give further information

Acetal will fail at low ph.

Some grades of polyester based elastomer co-polymers might work (Hytrel fro DuPont or Arnitel from DSM). Urethane might work, Santoprene might work

Problem I see is that to get the extreme ph range and temperature resistance along with FDA is difficult.

Another thought is silicone rubbers

You might try a fiberglass-filled Delrin or Teflon.

Delrin is acetal. It will definitely fail at low ph.
Also it is not an elastomer.
Glass fibres might present a problem with FDA
Also, as this is a non comercial, technical forum, i think we should try to avoid trade names, or at least give more than one companies, if trade names are necessary for clarity

PTFE (Teflon, Fluon, Hostaflon) is also not an elastomer, but I agree, it is a soft polymer and might do from that point of view. It meets all other requirements except creep resistance, for which it is terrible.
