NOS

NOS

(OP)
1) Does anyone know of any problems with putting a fogger nozzle on each intake tract, as apposed to  1 or 2 further upstream and is it worth it?
2) If the nos is going to drop the intake charge temp 50-80deg c, (thanks again Retracnic) could this damage the pistons or rings?

RE: NOS

That is how most high horsepower nitrous systems are configured many have as high as three nozzles per runner
BE VERY CAREFUL a system like this is capable of destroying even the best racing engine in one run You need top quality parts that are designed for nitrous use and an ignition that is capable of retarding the timing as much as 20 degrees when the nitrous is activated

The piston damage does not come from the cooling effect of the nitrous but from the uncontrolled combustion it can cause when improperly tuned ......I have some samples if you would like to see them

Is it worth it? power gains of 250hp to 500 hp on V8 drag engines that already have 1000 hp are quite common but so are burnt piston when things are not tuned properly

RE: NOS

Grogg,

1) The main benefit of locating nozzles on each intake tract is that it raises the concentration levels of nitrous oxide that is available to each cylinder. The down-side is that less intake charge cooling takes place. But for the really big shots, port injection is the only game in town.
2) The intake charge drop is 50-80deg  FAHRENHEIT. I forget sometimes that the internet is an international community, please forgive. But to answer your question, no. The only damage nitrous will cause your pistons/rings, is by running an incorrect mixture ratio (or too much of the correct ratio).

As a side note, N2O is not a technology to be ‘played’ with. If you are at all serious about nitrous injection, consult an expert in your area. Only take advice from those who are successfully running a setup similar to what you have in mind. Many engines have met an early grave due to bad advice.

A poorly tuned nitrous system is an easy way to get your engine to fit nicely into a five gallon plastic bucket.

Good Luck

Thank you for the promt reply.

So what you are saying is that the cold nitrous will not hurt the pistons & its worth the effort, but be very carefull.  OK got that.

I have used NOS before (playing) and has cost 2 rebuilds
I bought the kit second hand and have now got it more or less correct (motor is still alive 3 months later) more by luck I think.

I checked again, my bottle does not have a siphon tube, but it looks like it was supposed to have one. I think I need to order some new bits.

Great site
thanks
