Pipe support design

Is there any Code dealing with Pipe support design?
How is driven the number, type of pipe supports per pipe length, stress induced by pressure, thermal effects, ...

Thanks for any input

RE: Pipe support design

Lfab,

Yes, there are codes, and they govern the acceptable design, construction inspection and testing of piping system and pipe supports....

For heavy industrial piping, the codes are ASME B31.1 and ASME B31.3. You can purchase them at www.asme.org

Within these codes you can find acceptable pipe support spans, information on support types, welded attachments etc.... You will also find reference to the MSS series (MSS-69 and -89 come to mind) of standards that control the design and application of pipe support hardware.
