There are probably plenty of Aussies here, but, not too many issues that can't be resolved in house with the various AS.

As an Aussie structural engineer working exclusively in Australia, I don't have a need for oversees codes and standards, so I don't have the opportunity to compare standards.

My biggest issue with respects to standards, is the need to have additional "commentry" type standards or texts that explain what the standard is about. I feel that if the standard is any good it should be easy to follow with very little ambiguity. Another pet hate is the way the standards only every deal with "standard/common" solutions.

Why not give guidance on more complex problems? eg AS4100 - steel structures is fairly good with standard sections but tends to be a bit vague about non standard sections such as inverted "T" lintels.

Do oversees codes have the same problem?
