Printer Compatability

Printer Compatability

Is there anyone out there that is currently using a HP Designjet 500 printer with SolidWorks. Im considering buying one but need to be 99.9% sure that when printing a model/drawing in full colour that it does actually print a solid colour rather than a series of coloured dots that are easily visible to the eye (as per my current HP Designjet 450C). I would also be interested to know if anybody else is using a HP 450C and has the same results

RE: Printer Compatability

For what it's worth...

We've got a DJ650C that works just fine (no "dots").

Have you tried changing your plotter's settings to get rid of the dots?  There may be options for the half-toning in the color correction.

You don't fight destiny, no sir... and you don't eat crackers in the bed of your future!

RE: Printer Compatability

We plot on a DesignJet 450C and on the rare occasions that I have plotted in color I haven't noticed dots overly apparent...  I just use the normal print settings, although if things start looking a little pale I will switch to best setting.

RE: Printer Compatability

I also have a HP450C and do not have a problem at all you may want to check your ink cartridges and also the driver you are using for the HP450C. But i can also tell you that it will not print photo quality if that is what you are trying to get to.

RE: Printer Compatability

We use a HP 450c also.  The dots you refer to are visible close-up (18in or less), but at arms length the full color plots look good.  Like Rocko says, the 450c isn't a photoprinter, so don't expect that type of quality.

The quality of print i'm getting from the 450C is much worse than the rest of you seem to get. 2 HP engineers have not been able to make the quality any better though so i guess i'll just go ahead with the HP 500. Anyone outhere using one that can comment on the quality of colour printing?

RE: Printer Compatability

Before you by another plotter remember that printer drivers are on of the main controllers of print quality make sure that you have the latest one, Also make sure that your printer cable is of good quality that can degrade the quality also.
