Damper mechanism for floating objects

Damper mechanism for floating objects

Damper mechanism for floating objects

(OP)
Hi,
How can I design a damper to prevent vertical movement of an object suspended at a depth greater than 15m below a surface float which is driven by the wind and the tide. There is an elastomer link between the damper and the object and I am just having difficulty in the best way to approach any design work.
Cheers in advance

RE: Damper mechanism for floating objects

Clue: vertical movement relative to the surface float, or to average depth, or what?

Sorry - meant to state that the object must stay at the same depth regardless of what displacements the surface float is going through.

Then mount it on a spring relative to the surface float, and add damping to its own vertical motion.

active or passive dampening?

RE: Damper mechanism for floating objects

Oh, I'd have thought ribbons or a parachute like device would be adequate
