Sediment Basin Design

Sediment Basin Design

Sediment Basin Design

(OP)
Hello everyone,

I am trying to design a sediment basin based on detention times.  Can anyone shed some light on this for me?  Any help is greatly appreciated.

RE: Sediment Basin Design

1) Review Stokes Law and pick a particle size that you want to intercept.
2) Go to http://www.stormwatercenter.net, click on manual, the design examples for filter, in the sand filter example they size a sediment basin.

recommend you maximize the retention time, but if you go beyond about 2 or 3 days you will be encouraging mosquitoes and other health and safety issues.  Plus, you need to evacuate the basin so that it will be ready for the next rain storm.

Try WINhydro available from McTrans @ University of Florida. It will let U select particle size, inflow, outflow, etc. and size the basin for U.
