Kevlar vs Leather

Kevlar vs Leather

Kevlar vs Leather

(OP)
I am in a constant argument with my Technicians about using a nylon lifting sling with a Kevlar fabric sleeve instead of a leather sleeve to resist abrasions when lifting 5000lbs coils of steel.

I content that leather is more resistant, they say the Kevlar fabric. Any commentS? Sources or information?

RE: Kevlar vs Leather

Having utilized Kevlar in applications of impact resistance or ballistic protection, I can agree that Kevlar is excellent in those applications.  It is great for cut resistance - much better than leather.  But for abrasion resistance, I'd take leather any day.
