Which software to use for scheduling?

Which software to use for scheduling?

Which software to use for scheduling?

(OP)
Qualificatons

1) Appropriate for scheduling jobs in a machine shop.
2) Relatively easy to use
3) Relatively inexpensive (I looked at Esti-Track from Henning; wow - $7000 is way too much!)
4) Ability to see schedule graphically by Bar or Gannt charts.
5) Used by many companies. This says two things: the sotware and its maker will probably be around for years, and it is a decent product because it has captured a good market share.

Thanks for any help! -- wcarey

RE: Which software to use for scheduling?

For what it's worth we are using MS Project. I am not quite sure of the cost but it is much less than the $7000 you mentioned. It has the ability to create Bar and Gannt charts as well as allowing you to customize your work week to fit your schedule. One of the features I like is the ability to link items which minimizes over scheduling your resources.

RE: Which software to use for scheduling?

MS Project and Primavera's SureTrak costs somewhere between $400 to $500.

RE: Which software to use for scheduling?

I agree with Richard. Sounds like MS Project is all over what you want to do. I have built several food facilities with it.
