SO3 Scrubber & Demister
SO3 Scrubber & Demister
(OP)
We have to define some installation to treat gas effluents from sulfonation reactors.
Typical components in the gas stream are H2O, Formaldehyde, SO3, N2, O2 and some Phenol .-
The initial approach includes a scrubber with water or a caustic solution to absorb some of the components and a demister to remove the acid mist produced in the scrubber.
I would like to know your experience in this area.
Thanks

RE: SO3 Scrubber & Demister
Ardilesd, I have no direct experience on the subject, but have seen drawings on flue gas treatments showing demisters being spray-washed from below and from above with water located in the same vessel just above the scrubbing section. The selection of the neutralizing chemical appears to be of economic (effectiveness vs cost) importance.
RE: SO3 Scrubber & Demister
I have been in contact with Koch and EnviroChem, and the solution seems to be similar to that you describe.
