I'm too old for this ...

I want to install a PLC network to control some compressors. I will have one PLC/compressor, with the PLCs connected together thru "Ethernet/IP" (Allen-Bradley).

The problem is that I need to pass nearly ALL of the information contained in those PLCs to a DCS (Honeywell TPS). The DCS also talks "Ethernet", but it somehow operates differently.

Both vendors talk about "OPC compliancy" and I think they should be able to pass information to each other through this, but I really don't know how it works or what has to be done to make it work. Throwing $$$ at the problem will force it on someone else, but doesn't help me or my company.

Can anyone point me to a document or something that would explain IN SIMPLE TERMS what I need to do to achieve this communication? The authors, so far, seem to be too close to their subject, and lose me really fast. Some hand-holding would be nice.

RE: OPC and Ethernet

You need OPC server for Allen-Bradley PLC(www.matrikon.com) and you need OPC client from Honeywell. It works like this: Honeywell OPC client will read data from Matrikon OPC server for A-B, and OPC server from A-B PLC's.

Thanks! They may just have a solution.

RE: OPC and Ethernet

Dear don't worry .. Honeywell systems are having the compatibility with Allen bradley systems and you need to configure the channels in Honeywell TPS using the RSlinx make the channel using the TCP drivers and give the TCP/IP address in TPS channels and download the same. Now you are ready to communicate with AB PLc and can get the data through OPC .
