Watermark
Watermark
(OP)
Hi
Is there anyway I can add text to a drawings such that is "behind" the drawing lines?
I have a full page grey watermark that I want to add to some drawings - but the text is always 'infront' of the drawings lines.
Can I do this? SW2001+
Thanks djw

RE: Watermark
See also Thread559-55169.
Creat a *.gif image with your text, and make it transparent i, lets say, 50% (I beleave you can easely do it using an image editor).
Insert the image in a Word *.doc.
Insert the Word *.doc into SW. Now you have an water mark and the lines are on top of it.
Good Luck

RE: Watermark
2 questions:
1 - in your suggestion, does the drawing stays in top of the watermark, giving a clear information?
2 - the normal way to present watermarks is diagonaly. Can you do that?
Regards
RE: Watermark
I read the question wrong; I thought he wanted it behind or even with the template. My mistake.
Question 2:
I was not aware that you made watermarks at an angle. You can't set annotations at an angle.
So your suggestion was right, but I have found what I think maybe an easier way than the way you pointed out.
Try this
1) Start new drawing
2) RMB - Edit Sheet Format
3) Insert\Excel Worksheet
4) Once inside of the excel spreadsheet, Insert\Picture\Wordart
5) Pick the style (diagonally - black)
6) Add text - OK
7) Stretch Text to fit size needed.
8) Then go to Tools\Options\ Uncheck gridlines
9) Click SW drawing area and close spreadsheet
10) RMB – Edit sheet

RE: Watermark
But I never thought use Excel for watermarks. Great results! But you forgot to mention to select semi transparency in the color, so the drawing is still visible if lines are above the text.

RE: Watermark
While in the SolidWorks drawing select "print" then select "options". I have a tab called "watermark". After selecting "watermark", I am able to place text or an image in any location or angle within the printable area, also scaling is avilable. Additionally the watermark can be varied in intensity from a very light grey to black. I have used this option many times for quotes. Our printer is a Ricoh 1018D. Hope that helps, maybe an updated driver would give you the "watermark" option.
Good luck,
Jay

Will try some of the ideas this morning.

RE: Watermark
I normally do not use these printers watermarks for 2 reasons:
1 - not all the printers/drivers support this useful feature
2 - in some cases there's the need to save the file with the status visible. Once the file opened, the watermark should be visible to the user.
