Delete An Useless Sketch
Delete An Useless Sketch
(OP)
Folks,
This is a newbie question, so thanks for your indulgence, I'm using SolidWorks 2003.
After trying many things I'm at my wit's end about this. I have created a sketch that I no longer needs, but I can't get rid of it.
It keeps on telling me that "Entities which do not belong to the active sketch can not be deleted" when I highlight the sketch in the explorer and press delete. I deleted all the objects in that sketch (it also won't let me save it but that's another story).
I'm sure it's probably something I overlooked but the solution does not appear to be very intuitive.
Help!

RE: Delete An Useless Sketch
Make sure that the sketch is not open for editing when you try to delete it. Right-click on an empty area of the screen and hit "Exit Sketch" if it appears. Then select the sketch in the Feature Manager tree and delete.

Backdoor solution in case there is some odd glitch:
Make some sort of feature from the sketch (Insert-->Surface-->Planar would be good). Then highlight the feature in the feature manager tree and hit "Delete". At the bottom of the confirmation window is a checkbox to delete absorbed features. Make sure it is checked.

Your answer has brought me much happiness. I have tried it and it works great. I guess the key is to exit sketch.
Thank you!
