Could someone out there give me the correct formula for the 'Lovell Factor'?  I know it is related to piston speed, bore area and valve area.  Is this an American term as I have not come accross the term in any UK text books, where can I find references for this term.

Thanks Sean

RE: Lovell Factor

LF=mean piston speed * bore area/inlet valve area

Google is your friend.

Thanks Greg, you confirmed what I thought i.e. mean gas velocity.  Can anybody explain where the term Lovell Factor comes from, who is Lovell, I have searched the web with no success.

RE: Lovell Factor

I agree, I can't find any reference to him, or any other reference to that formula than the Corvette article. Maybe you could contact the author.

RE: Lovell Factor

I believe Lovell's first name was Brian, and I believe he is deceased.  There were very detailed Formula One engine analyses using his technique published in Racecar Engineering about 5 years ago.  At the time, Ian Bamsey was at that magazine and was involved in the articles.  Mr. Bamsey now is the editor/creator of a competitor magazine called RaceTech.  I recommend that you contact him, maybe even encourage him to publish a summary of the technique.

The RaceTech website is: http://www.racetechmag.com

and the email address is: info@racetechmag.com
