Detonate C4 - minimum device?

Detonate C4 - minimum device?

Detonate C4 - minimum device?

(OP)
I need a device to detonate C4 that is as reliable as a #12 cap, but safer to handle. Either electrical or mechanical. Any ideas? I have heard rumors of a silicon diode that requires 50V to punch it, but is very safe to handle. Anyone familier with it?

RE: Detonate C4 - minimum device?

Ensign Bickford has/had a product called primadets which are a delay cap on a flash tube that would be initiated in the same manner as detcord. They are/were very safe and reliable.

RE: Detonate C4 - minimum device?

jrhines,

I'm not familiar with any use of C4 in mining or the commercial explosives industry. Primarily, I suppose, because of the cost. You will probably get better information from another source. Sorry, that wasn't much help.

I did some work at the Queen's University explosives test
site back in 75. We were verifying effects on C4 and other
explosive products from different caliber bullets. Its been
quite a while but you could contact Queen's to see if they
have done any further testing. They did testing for CIL and
others at this site and I believe it still operates today.
You can contact Jamie Archibald, Head of the Mine Engineer-
ing department at 613-533-2199 in Kingston. Hope this helps.

Regards
Norm
