Hourly Lockup?

Hourly Lockup?

Hourly Lockup?

(OP)
Hi,

We are having a problem at work with the autoCAD Pc's locking up on the hour, every hour. it lasts for approx five minutes, and is getting very annoying.

Our IT dept. has checked for spikes on the network, and on the PC's but nothing is showing up.

Is it possible that C-Dilla or MeetNow is causing this?

The PC's are running Windows 2000, with Architectural Desktop 3.3. They do NOT have a live internet connection.

Any help/suggestions would be appreciated.

thanks.
greenwire.

thanks for the reply.

Yes, we've installed service pack 1.
Yes, everyone in the office has Norton AV Corporate, but only the CAD machines have the problem.

Greenwire.

RE: Hourly Lockup?

Greenwire,
I've had problems like those you describe on a computer with no live internet connection when running IM apps like MSIM and AIM.  I closed them up and the problem went away.
Even with a live connection, IM's can lock you up if the Host server is down when they try to log in.  Unless you really need a live chat routine, it's best not to run the app constantly.

RE: Hourly Lockup?

Greenwire,
This suggestion may be to simple, but one never knows.
Since the lockup is hourly, it may be the autosave, especially if you are running large files.
Go to preferences and turn the Autosave off.

RE: Hourly Lockup?

Greenwire,
We had a similar problem.
I accused the IT group that it was their network.
And they checked the network to see if they were running anything. The analysis came back as nothing was being done.

We have 25 offices here in the states and another 8 or so aboard.
Anyway, other offices started to complain about the same problem. "Computers were locking up on an hourly interval." But our "lock ups" would only occur for 20 seconds or so.

Eventually, after 3 months of headaches ... it turned out that someONE in corporate was running some routine every hour. This task was being run'd in another state.
16 offices are all tied into the same network which this guy was doing his daily routine.

So despite OUR IT's effort to locate the problem on it's own machines here .. they couldn't locate the problem back to the other office in another state.

The corporate IT guy eventually stopped his efforts during working hours.
His response ..."I didn't know this would cuase a problem ... [nuetral]".

Greenwire,
Go back to your IT group and ask them to check again.
R.
