I would like some MOC recommendations for a mixing vessel used for 6M Guanidine HCl.  This is a sanitary/hygienic vessel that will be designed to ASME BPE-2002 standards (Bioprocess equipment).
I have heard that 316L SS is not recommended because pitting will occur.  I have also seen that one thread mentioned AL6XN.  I checked into this and the cost is about a 70% increase over 316L SS.
Plastic is a possibility but may times plastic tanks are not designed to the BPE standard.
Would 904L SS be an option?  How would the cost compare to 316L SS?

Dear Guano,

I've just been faced with the same question. Did you ever get a useful answer to your posting?

RE: 6M Guanidine HCl

guano;
I have dealt with Trent Tube (web site www.trent-tube.com) and they have an excellent pdf file listing a wide selection of alloys and their corrosion resistance in various environments. On several occasions, I have called them for pricing on heat exchanger materials.

According to their literature, 316L ss is NOT acceptable, the AL6XN and 904L would be "acceptable" in concentrated HCL.  I would call them to get pricing.
