Is there a cost effective plastic /acrylic in manufacture that when used as clear glazing or partition in a vehicle that can meet all EU testing, ie abration strength ect.I Know of a material called Lexan from an American company but this is very costly.

Lexan® is the GE Plastics trademark for polycarbonate.  This is used commonly for applications like yours.  Other companies produce polycarbonate - try Calibre® from Dow and Apec®, Makrolon® and Makrofol® from Bayer.  Websites for these companies are:

Please see FAQ731-376 for tips on how to make the best use of Eng-Tips Fora.

RE: plastics

Acrylic is much better to abrasion than normal polycarbonate, and somewhat less expensive.

It is sometimes known by the trade names, Perspex, Plexiglass, Shinkolite or Oroglass.

It has a brittle type break, which might be a problem.

PC can be had with a treatment to improve it's scratch resistance, but that is even more expensive
