Failure of Reformer Catalyst Tubes.

(OP)
Dear Sirs,
My fertilser plant was commissioned in 1993. Since then we have been monitoring health of Primery Reformer Catalyst tubes. Catalyst tubes are made of IN-519 by centrifugal casting process. Folloing tests are being performed during planned shut down (every year).
1. Ultrasonic Testing : No significant defect detected so far. All the tubes are in catagory A & B only.
2. Creep measurment of tubes in front of burners.Maximum creep recorded 1.26 % so far.No buldging noticed and all the tubes are straight.
3. DPT of weld joints 100 %.No Significant Defect detected
4. Magnetic permiability : Recorded in the range of 0.8~1.4 micro Tesla.
5. Ultrasonic Thickness testing: No thinning recorded.
6. % Ferrite content measurement on catalyst tubes and pigtail tubes. recorded 2 ~ 10 %.
7. Thermal mapping of tubes on regular basis.

There are 144 tubes X 2 rows (Both side firing) and total 576 burners.

After successful operation of around 70000 Hrs.as plant is getting old , i want to know :-
1.What is nipping process, at what location it is performed?
2.How to set maximum permissible limits of safe operation for bore carburaisation, Magnetic pemiability,Creep and Attenuation values.

Thanks
N. Soni
