Circular gravel drive on slope, island w/retaining wall, drainage?

Circular gravel drive on slope, island w/retaining wall, drainage?

Circular gravel drive on slope, island w/retaining wall, drainage?

(OP)
We plan to replace our existing 9yr. old "silt-filled" circular gravel drive and landscape the interior island with a stone retaining wall. The  1.5 acre lot is approx. 130' wide, the house is 120' off the road. The lot slopes front to back with an approx. 5' drop from road to house. The lot drains a significant amount of water from surrounding land but the daylight basement has no water issues due to landscaping and french drains. The section of drive that runs in front of the house is currently 1' above grade relative to the home's foundation but still collects water due to silting.

We would like to lower this section of the drive to create a slight swale between the drive and house. There is a stone walkway leading from the drive to the steps of the front porch. The semi-circular retaining wall will follow the inside edge of the drive, will be approx. 3'-4' high in front and taper to less than 1' on each side. There is a thin layer of dark topsoil and subsoil is red clay.

We are concerned about how best to handle drainage, avoid errosion of the gravel drive on the slope, and stop the silting of the gravel in the lower section of the drive. We will also need to address drainage from the island through the retaining wall, into/across the lower section of the circular drive. We would like to avoid paving.

We are in the planning stages and would appreciate any advice. THANKS!!!!
