Class II, Div 2, Group G Instrumentation Requirments

(OP)
Does IP67 rated instruments meet the requirments for a Class II, Div 2, Group G area. The Nema rating for this type of area clasification is Nema 9 which is for indoor use. The area I'm working with in is under a canopy, but is possibly exposed to windblown rain, which ordinarily require Nema 4 instruments for protection against water. There doesn't seem to be a suitable Nema rating for this type of area classification in an outdoor environment

RE: Class II, Div 2, Group G Instrumentation Requirments

The IP rating and Explosionproof rating are different. All IP67 rating equipments can not be used in classified area. For outdoor application in Class II, Div.2 Group G, you can very well use combination of NEMA 4 (very approximate equivalent to IP 66) & NEMA 9 ( For hazardous locations) enclosure. NEMA 4 enclosure is for indoor as well as outdoor use providing protection against windblown dust and rain, splashing water, hose-directed water and external ice formation where as NEMA 9 enclosure will provide protection for Class II, Gr E, F or G. You must mention both these classes (viz. NEMA 4, 9) in your specifications. If you need protection against corrosion also then go for NEMA 4X,9. Actually NEMA 4 and 4X deals with outdoor applications and NEMA 7 & 9 deals with hazardous locations.
