Micro Hydro Power Plants

I need info on how to start and manage micro hydropower projects right from feasibility studies to installation and commissioning. Basically we are interested in offering turnkey projects to various prospective clients. So I would appreciate the input from the members of the forum, which would no doubt help in more than one ways.

Like how to start the feasibility studies, what to consider, is it possible to get the equipment designed by a manufacturing company, is there a list of such companies???? Etc.

Any and all input shall be highly appreciated.

Take a visit to this website.....

I got a lot of the technical information for my project from here.

Also, get a subscription to Power magazine (McGraw-Hill).  Another good source of information on the business of power generation.

If you're selling turnkey projects in such specialized installations, shouldn't YOU already be an expert in this?

Suggestion: As the Project Manager, industry standards should be adhered to, e.g. IEEE, IEC, etc. Visit

for more info on industry standards covering hydro projects

RE: Micro Hydro Power Plants

You have to hire a consultor for your project, but if you are still in the satage where you´re still not sure if your project will give returns enough to hire a consultor, you have to check the local legislation in order to know if you're going to get special prices, etc. ( in my country we do). After you find out the prices, you should still know the probably capacity of your project and assuming that you have ir, you will be able to get a first economic calculation

On the North American continent, two big hurdles are negotiating the agency permitting process before breaking ground, and translating regulatory concepts into specs and drawings.  Chances are most in the trade consider that hard-earned proprietary information, and finding details without experience and some cash outlay may be challenging.

Regulatory goals will not always easily mesh, and considerable footwork is usually necessary to achieve workable conciliation and a happy client.  [However undesirable, the “rules” can change daily, too.  Time has streamlined some compliance mechanisms, but plan to deal with some surprises, too.]
