Creating a Block and adding linked properties to it

Creating a Block and adding linked properties to it

Creating a Block and adding linked properties to it

(OP)
Ok....basically I need to be able to take a standard blocked out sheet that I have in autocad (same exact fonts and everything), and put it into a workable solidworks template.  Ive been messing with this for a day now and it's driving me mad.  I DID read the help file first, but unfortunately it wasnt very descriptive in this case.  I want something where I can control scale and all that (just like the preset templates that you get when you first buy solidworks).  If anyone can give me some advice, I'd really appreciate it!

Thanks,
Jay

RE: Creating a Block and adding linked properties to it

Save your template as a DXF in AutoCAD and bring it into SW as a drawing file. Once you get it setup the way you want it in SW. Do a File\Save Sheet Format then you can use that format for all drawings.

Or

You can save it as a template and when you click New it will be available to pick from the New menu box.

RE: Creating a Block and adding linked properties to it

There are a number of properties you can link to that are related to the file properties, such as scale.  When you got to link a property, look for the ones with the "SW-" prefix.  Here, you will find scale under "SW-Sheet Scale".  Use this in your note.

The note or block is controlled by the property, but the property can not be changed through the note.

One more thing I noticed about properties in notes used in blocks: the notes don't always update immediately after changes, but the updates do appear after rebuild.  This is especially true with the "last saved date" proprerties.

Gravity is a harsh mistress.
