Bolts to be used with weathering steel in Europe

Bolts to be used with weathering steel in Europe

(OP)
I’m trying to use atmospheric corrosion resistant steel in the design of a bridge in Spain.

I think that in USA Type 3 HS bolts are specified to be used with that kind of steel, and that Type 3 bolts are made out of weathering steel also.

But in Europe I have not found a similar specification. I have asked several steel fabricators and they said me that in Europe are used with weathering steel the same kind of bolts that are used with carbon structural steels.

Is that true? Can anybody help in telling me any reference on that topic?

Thanks.

RE: Bolts to be used with weathering steel in Europe

Don't know the direct answer, but if there's a little Cu in the steel it's probably a weathering grade.

RE: Bolts to be used with weathering steel in Europe

I assume you are talking about large diameter bolts
where the penetration of corrosion would be minimal
and then act as a surface barrier to further corrosion.
They may be correct.  Experience is the one of the
best teachers.
