2001 to Wildfire Migration?
2001 to Wildfire Migration?
(OP)
Hi,
Are there any 2001 users who are in the process of switching to Wildfire?
I am very interested in all of the things that the PTC sales people are not saying. What I mean is; they talk about all of the part modeling and interface improvements yet they don't talk much about the less flashy things - like getting the part done, the drawings done, the assembly drawings done and getting the parts or products out the door.
We have spent a lot of time optimizing 2001 for maximum effeciency.
Can anyone tell me what it is like to move from 2001 to Wildfire in a situation where the transition has to happen quickly? How friendly is Wildfire to regular 2001 users?
Any comments would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks in advance

No Intralink - we are using the good old fashioned "search path" option.

Personally I like Wildfire and feel that there are more pro's than con's. Go on, take the plunge.

Thanks for your input. Sounds like you are a little more patient and less "reactive" than some of the people who's comments I have read in other newsgroups.
I suppose that PTC can either change the user interface or, stick with the same one forever. I am sure that they wouldn't have made so many drastic changes if they didn't believe it would be best for the product in the end.
cheers,

As someone said, the only hickup was the use of 3.2 instead of 3.3 with wildfire.
We use wildfire and 3.3 and it runs very smoothly.

I do not know how many Pro/E objects you have to maintain, but not working with a data management system is not easy when it comes to Pro/E. Pro/INTRALINK has its pros and cons as do other programs, but it does a pretty good job with Pro/E objects.
I have yet to make the jump to Wildfire, but I know that I have had a hell of a time with my mapkeys when upgrading from 2000i to 2001. I have used Wildfire for test purposes and I can see that it would have problems using my old mapkeys. The interface is totally different and the menu picks (if you want to call them menu picks now) are far from transparent.
Thanks to all for the tips...

Do you trust your intuition or go with the flow?

In many ways it's frustrating...just manipulating the model with new "mouse & Keyboard" combos irritates the hell out of me...it was unthinking automatic movement, in W2 it had be re-learnt.
Also the new interface is not obvious....you know a certian function exists, but where is again?
"Menu Mapper" is a godsend....and using it with your 2001 experiance means that although you'll slow down for a few weeks...W2 isn't difficult to pick up and start running.
I expect I shall learn to love it.....but I'm not there yet.
But "less clicks" hmmm
