Calculate radius and angle for a forming punch for bending sheetmetal

Calculate radius and angle for a forming punch for bending sheetmetal

Calculate radius and angle for a forming punch for bending sheetmetal

(OP)
For example, I need to bend a piece of sheet metal 1"x0.5" (0.010" thick) into a one-bend (L-shaped) part with a radius of 0.100" and 90 degree overbend angle. At the moment of the punch there is one angle and when the punch is lifted material fractures and gives another angle increased by few degrees. Does anybody know a software that can approximate required radius and angle of the forming punch? I have ProEngineer availble, can it be done there?  Any ideas or web links are welcome...

I do not know of any particular software other than I thought PRO-E had a sheet metal package. Lets see if I can help nonetheless. If I understand your question you are encountering material springback a common problem when wiping. The severity dependant on many variables in sheet metal forming i.e. material, part thickness, process etc. There are several methods you can try for instance over bend the angle (developed), use a set radius in your form (coin), or the position method (mathematically developed), which needs to be done in two forms.
