Low frequency electromagnetic noise

(OP)
Do you know of simple ways to measure low frequency electromagnetic noise in environment? I encountered this problem when designing some basic bioelectric transducers. I understand that sensitivity to such noises can be minimised when using differential amplifiers and 50/60Hz filters but sometimes it is usefull to compare different places by amount of such noise or locate devices that generate most of unwanted interference. Any ideas?

RE: Low frequency electromagnetic noise

If you are concerned about noise caused by low frequency magnetic fields, there is a company that makes portable battery-powered monitors for just such an application. The company is MEDA(Macintyre Electronic Design Associates, Inc.) and the unit is the FM-300. It measures magnetic fields down to DC, and it is very good at separating the DC component(such as the earth's magnetic field) out of the readings. Their number is (703)471-1445.

RE: Low frequency electromagnetic noise

Yup, a gaussmeter is just what you're looking for.

Possibly www.fwbell.com, or [one-man operation no web site, AFAIK] produces a simple multimeter accessory:
