Tee reinforcement

Tee reinforcement

Tee reinforcement

(OP)
Hi,
I,m making a NP 10 Kg/cm2 equal bore tee 40"x40"x40" from API5L GB steel pipe 1016x9,5 mm, for water.
My doubt is about the reinforcement on the welding.
Is it necessary? Is it made from a steel bar welded between the main and the branch? Does that bar have standard dimensions?
Cam somebody help me on this question or tell me were in the net can I find the answers.
Thanks in advance.

AWWA

RE: Tee reinforcement

sounds like you are suggesting a BAD Practice filling in the weld with a piece of bar..not good, probably "illegal"
fit the branch to the header by shaping and bevelling so that you can get a full penetration weld plus a fillet =0.707 x branch wall thickness or 6mm min

RE: Tee reinforcement

You're going to need a reinforcement ring for the branch.

This should be calculated in accordance with ASME B31.3
(or EN13480 if you're in europe)

Mogens

RE: Tee reinforcement

I am a bit confused about your term reinforcement.  Are on you planning to reinforce the shell opening by adding metal al as you have weaken the shell with the opening? or are you referring to the weld reinforcement " that the hump on the weld bead at the welded joint?  That "hump" normally decreases the efficiency at the welded joint. You would grind that reinforcement flush w/ parent metal surface to get a 100% efficiency when you do a full penetration weld.
