3D drawing

3D drawing

(OP)
Hi all

Is it possible to create 3D drawing in SW?
Standard 3 Views and Title Block as 3D IGES file.

RE: 3D drawing

If you mean an iso - or any other off planar view- yes.

Tile part and drawing on your screen - rotate model to desire position. Go to the drawing select named view - click on the model and insert it in.

Works everytime.

I can create 3D part and then 2D drawing in SW.
But is it possible to "unite" them into one 3D file (as it possible in AutoCAD)?

RE: 3D drawing

Place and ISO view in your drawing. Use Named View to place an ISO view in your drawing and tag dimension on it.

OR

Turn your Annotation on in the 3D part so you can view your dims there...if that's what your looking for.

RE: 3D drawing

No, it is not possible to have an associative drawing in the same file as your model in SolidWorks.

I know what you want, though.  Unigraphics can do the same thing (Gawd, I miss working on UG!)

RE: 3D drawing

Sure it is possible. I am not sure why you would do this, but if you export the drawing format as a dxf and then import it into a part file as curves it might come in as 3D curves . . . The hide the body or hide the curves tosee what you want.

RE: 3D drawing

Snowcrash:  The operative phrase was "associative drawing".  By this, I mean a drawing that updates live with changes to the solid model.  ATFD, bitte!

Another possibility is to import a TIFF (*.tif) image of the print to the part.  You would still need to make a separate drawing to generate the TIFF.

Another option would be to include a note within the model with a hyperlink to the drawing file.  Of course, this is one more "live" item that needs to be kept updated.

Pachem, I assume all of these contortions are due to a lack of a PDM system where you are.
