3-Phase Connector Wiring

3-Phase Connector Wiring

3-Phase Connector Wiring

(OP)
This has probably already been asked, but I couln't find it in the FAQ archive, and really need an answer.

Is there any controlling standard or spec for the sequence of wiring of the 3 phases on an electrical power connector?

Electricians tell me that they have been trained to wire such that if you looking into the face of a wall-mounted Jack connector, the phases are ordered A, B, C in a clockwise order, meaning that if you connect a commercial phase meter in a clockwise order A, B, C, then the "ABC" light will illuminate and not the "CBA" light.

My question is whether this informal standard is codified somewhere - NEMA, perhaps?  Thanks in advance.

RE: 3-Phase Connector Wiring

Try to contact NEMA at
http://www.nema.org
and inquire about standard ANSI/NEMA WD 6-1997 "Wiring Devices-Dimensional Requirements"
