BOM's

BOM's

Do the latest versions of Unigraphics include the ability to create and manage a Bill of Materials?

If not, what bolt-on software is available, and what are your experiences using it?

RE: BOM's

UG has had the ability to create and manage BOM, partslists, since V9. It isn't the prettiest piece of code in UG's suite, but it does work. It has also been on the redesign list for about 4-5 years. Hopefully the new partslist functionality will make NX V3 or UG-MS.

How comprehensive is the built in BOM?

Can it be tailored?

Will it let you input things like material, finish, weight etc?

Can it perform a sign-off loop i.e. get electronic ticks from everybody on an e-mail list before releasing the part to the BOM?

RE: BOM's

No. it is a very simple partslist. It will obtain information from the detail components of an assembly to build the structure. Depending on what information you have in your details, you can use that in teh assembly partslist.

We use attributes at the detail part level to capture the part number, drawing size and part title. I then use the attribute titles to build the partslist. If  added weight to my partslist format, I could have it in the assembly since I have a weight attribute in my details. There are also some 'hardcoded' fields that can be used in the partslist like quantity, item number, component name, etc. We choose not to use any of the UG supplied fields except quantity and item number.

If you want further details contact me directly.
