Manufacturer for Oil Burner Constant Differential Pump?
Manufacturer for Oil Burner Constant Differential Pump?
(OP)
We have utility boilers where oil is supplied to the burners and part is recirced back through a "constant differential pump" which controls the differential across the burner tips. This is a multistage centrifugal pump. The biggest ones we have are 440 GPM and 760 ft head. They pump #6 fuel oil at 210 degrees. The constant differential pumps are fed by burner pumps which put up 720 psig. Does anyone know a good manufacturer for new constant differential pumps like this (high suction pressure centrifugals)? We would prefer horizontal pumps. Are there any we should stay away from?

RE: Manufacturer for Oil Burner Constant Differential Pump?
There are many high quality multi-stage pumps available. Look at FLOWSERVE, Sulzer, KSB and Ebara. There are also many more in this market. Why not look at the company that supplied your current pumps.

We were already talking to Sulzer. I had not approached the others on your list though. Our experiences with Flowserve have not been positive in recent years so they are only used as a last resort. They may have satisfactory pumps but their sales and service/parts organizations have problems. The original manufacturer was United Centrifugal 40 years ago. I don't know if they were swallowed by someone or just disappeared. I was hoping to find someone who might have some of pumps like these in stock. Dream on, right?

I had a quick look on the net, and it looks like United was taken over by Byron Jackson, which is now FLOWSERVE. Back to square 1.
