Hydro-generator spinning

Hydro-generator spinning

Hydro-generator spinning

(OP)
Hello,
I would like to know if there are any detrimental effects of the following scenario:
A 3 MW hydroturbine is left spinning at around 200-250 rpm (synch speed is 360 rpm)due to the inability at this time to bring it to a complete stop (spun wicket gates, possibility of ice blockages in vents and penstock).  Breaker is open and field is off.
Thank you in advance.

RE: Hydro-generator spinning

As lond as there is proper bearing lubrication you should be fine.

RE: Hydro-generator spinning

The bearings will last less.

You did not say the the hydro was loaded or not.

Make sure that the oiling is properly working.

What type of turbine you have a Banki ?.

Regards
Nando
