Multi-reversal Direct Shear Test

Multi-reversal Direct Shear Test

(OP)
I'm looking for procedure(standard or mannual ??) of multi-reversal direct shear test in clay .Can I use one sample with 3 normal load ???

RE: Multi-reversal Direct Shear Test

I assume you are speaking of obtaining residual shear strengths.....you can use 3 normal loads on the same sample. However, the direct shear test is messy for this procedure and a torsional ring shear is recommended (ASTM  D6467).  You can also check out Tim Stark's research in the Geotechnical Journal to use liquid limits, clay fraction and overburden stresses to estimate residual phi angles.

Hope this is of some help.
