Colder LN2

Colder LN2

(OP)
Does anyone in the community know of any process to make LN2 colder ?
i.e lower the freezing point of LN2.

RE: Colder LN2

Doesn't putting a vuccum on the tank lower it's freezing point. I know we have done this to increase boil-off times.

RE: Colder LN2

As mentioned in the previous post, vacuum pumping on the dewar essentially causes a Joule-Thomson cooling of the LN2 in the dewar.  You can get about 10°C to 15°C additional cooling, e.g., operating temps down around 60 K.

Anything lower requires using something other that LN2.  Depending on the heat load, a split-Stirling helium cryocooler for infrared imagers can get down to 50 K or so with no circuit load.
