where does autocad save the drawing file

where does autocad save the drawing file

where does autocad save the drawing file

(OP)
where does autocad save the drawing file, that opens when you fire up autocad. I want to save it with all of my linetypes etc. So when i fire up autocad it has every thing inserted already to start work.

In r14 it was the acad.dwg file.
I have tryed a cople of different files but none of them work.

cheers,

RE: where does autocad save the drawing file

Hi,

the first drawing wich you open is a *.dwt file in the folder TEMPLATE. You have to save Your "fire up drawing" as start.dwt...
After that you have to change the start-path: Right mouse-click on the AC.LT icon on desktop -> links -> change the ?.dwt file to start.dwt

I hope it helps,
regards Lothar

RE: where does autocad save the drawing file

Autocad keeps a temporary wherever you designate it to keep it. Normally by default, it is C:\Temp and the file has a .ac$ extension. To restore it, you change the extension to .dwg If you want to store all of your settings for use each time in a file. The most common way is to save a drawing as a .dwt (drawing template) file. Begin any new drawing by opening the template and then save as the drawing file name that you want as a .dwg file.

RE: where does autocad save the drawing file

Dude,
Just rename your ACAD.DWG to ACAD.DWT and place it in the SUPPORT directory. That should do it ... IF you want what you described for AutoCAD r14 ...
Later ...

RE: where does autocad save the drawing file

In 2K+ go to Tools > Options > Files > Drawing Template File Location.  If you have your templates in another location, use "Browse".  I make my own folder with my own templates, profiles, lisp, and .ctb files in it and put it in a different location than the ACAD folder.  You will also want to put this folder in your ACAD support path.  This way if for whatever reason you have to reinstall ACAD it will be a snap to be "up and running".
