Pre I-DEAS 9 Universal export

Pre I-DEAS 9 Universal export

Pre I-DEAS 9 Universal export

(OP)
Hi all,

is there a way (maybe a hidden command) to export universal files from I-DEAS 9 into the universal format of an earlier version (such as I-DEAS 8 universal format)?

Thanks in advance,
Daniel

RE: Pre I-DEAS 9 Universal export

hello,
would you be able to export it as an IGES file?
maybe that will work tho you will probably lose alot of info along the way.

No, unfortunately it has to be in universal format, since I'm interested in the FE data.

Cheers,
Daniel

RE: Pre I-DEAS 9 Universal export

To my knowledge as well as information from my support provider, the universal file in I-DEAS 9 is not compatible to I-DEAS 8. Well, crude info but this is it.

RE: Pre I-DEAS 9 Universal export

If you are interested in FE data, why can't you export
in nastran, abaqus or ansys or other FE format, and read back in in I-DEAS 8?

Maybe that would work for you.

RE: Pre I-DEAS 9 Universal export

I did come across something like the export of a data format which the universal file is structured.

I have tried to find out more but without avail. The info I read was that we are supposedly able to get data structured with nodal coordinates and numbering, with element formed by the group of node numbers, which are also identified with "material" or "element type" numbering.

This should be the initial mesh data. As for the FE result, it could be possible if we know the FE data structure.
