Anybody inporting Ecad into Proe

Anybody inporting Ecad into Proe

Hi All

Is anyone inporting electrical components (pcb assy) proe and generating a bom and drawing.  I have a few questions on how you are doing this.

Thanks for all your input

RE: Anybody inporting Ecad into Proe

I imported once a file created in Mentor Graphics. It worked well and I was able to see in assembly mode all electrical components. But I didn't create a BOM. In fact I was curious to see how this works.

Hi All

I have a working import for Ecad to ProE, I'm also using Intralink, which will help later.

There are some updated files require to import correctly
Modify these files with your personal parameters.
(inlbs_asm_ecad.asm, inlbs_part_ecad.prt.2)
Play with the following config.pro setting to get what you desire:
(ecad_import_holes_as_features- yes, note  future set to NO
ecad_area_default_import-3d volume,
template_ecadasm- C:\ptc\proe2001\templates\inlbs_asm_ecad.asm,
template_ecadpart- C:\ptc\proe2001\templates\inlbs_part_ecad.prt

To display REF_DES in Drawing Mode the Drawing setup file has to set ref_des_display to YES.

My Drawing Bom has one little Problem that I can't over come, which is showing REF_DES in one column if there is more than one part with the same Part #.  I have created a column defined as text, and will enter the REF_DES manully.
I also can modify Part from Ecad to look like the real Part, remember do not delete the main surface but you can make it any shape.  If you had a proe model of a part, you can merge the Ecad part with the Proe part to make your Ecad part real looking.

Using Intralink I can now update same files names and get already real models with the same name.

The REF_DES in drawing mode can not be moved, but in Wildfire they will be able to.
To work around the Location of the REF_DES on the drawing, take a snapshot of a view, this changes the view to 2d and you can now move the REF_DES to clean up the locations.

You can now put another 3D view down.

Thanks

RE: Anybody inporting Ecad into Proe

What are your questions Tofflemire?

I have imported Ecad data from Allegro to Proe successfully many times.

Let me know.

Hi JDT020471

Thanks for your reply.  I have been working with the Ecad import alot more since I posted this question.  I have only two outstanding questions that I still have yet to resolve.  How do you you set up the Bill on Materials repeat region so that the REF_DES on same components show up in the same box, I have only found that you can only have one per line (box).  The other question is putting down assembly views to show the REF_DES vs. part location.  The work around that I found for this is to snap shot the view, and move the REF_DES to position that cleans up the drawing.

Thanks

RE: Anybody inporting Ecad into Proe

Greetings,

There is a process you can use to import ECAD data into Pro/E (typically an *emn & *.emp file).  Use PTC's knowledge base to see an example of the process.

Using INTRALINK you will want to set the library directory (in the config.pro) to intralink://cs so that when you import ECAD data each time the database is traversed and files are pulled (automatically Checked Out) and placed onto the board.  Depending on your version of INTRALINK you will notice that for every new file created from the ECAD import will also have the 'dummy' prt000X.prt but that is OK--just delete them from the Workspace.
