Digital Sound Recording

Digital Sound Recording

Digital Sound Recording

(OP)
Are there any digital sound recorders in which you can manipulate the wave in order to filter out certain frequencies and then play back the recording without those frequencies.  The usage of this recorder would be to record the sound of a small elctromechanical device being actuated, filter out certain frequencies, and play the sound back.  This will hopefully provide insight into noise reduction in the part.  Any suggestions, web site references, or literature on this subjuect would be useful.

RE: Digital Sound Recording

I have done some research in this area with a regular tape recorder and to purchase a digital recorder was my next step.
With regular tape recorder I have collected field data and brought it back to office and input raw data into a frequency analyzer and this allows you to analyze all frequencies collected. This would help identify all frequencies but to convert this back to only certain frequencies I don't know . Contact some of the manufactors of  FFT  Vibration Analyzers.

RE: Digital Sound Recording

If you digitally record the sound and convert it into a .wav file, you could do all of your signal processing (not realtime) in Mathcad.  It has FFT and signal processing capabilities.

RE: Digital Sound Recording

Dear Soap,
I agree with buteja in this regard.  There are many vendors who supply Digital FFT analyzer that convert Analog input to digital wave form and then you can display your data and select your time frame and post process it.
Take Care.
