plastic plating corrosion

plastic plating corrosion

(OP)
Hello!
I have some plastic plated parts LCP plated with 2um Cu/2um Ni/1 um Au. However, I found corrrosion / pitting on the surface after a short period of time under environmental chamber (84%, 85C). Anyone can help me on this?

RE: plastic plating corrosion

Hi,
I think the problem is something trapped under the plating that becomes reactive or volatile in your environmental test chamber. Two possibilities that I can think of right off:
1) Plasticizer,
2) Acidic activator (used to prepare the surface for plating).

What is the plastic? Can you detect volatiles if heat in vacuo?
What are details of the plating process?
