316SS minimum yield

316SS minimum yield

316SS minimum yield

(OP)
What is the industry standard typical minimum yield strength (if there is such a thing) on 316SS bar stock?

The only spec I can find is ASTM A 479 which lists 30ksi in the annealed condition and 65ksi in the strain-hardened condition.

Is there any other commonly available condition resutling in a minimum yield between 30ksi and 65 ksi?

Thanks

RE: 316SS minimum yield

The range given above is the normal range for yield strengths of 316ss. To specify the strength you need to a supplier you would order in this terminology.

Annealed == dead soft
1/4 hard
1/2 hard
3/4 hard
Full hard == fully work hardened.

316 can be ordered in most of these conditions.

What minimum yields can I expect from each of these conditions and should I expect it to vary from vendor to vendor?

RE: 316SS minimum yield

Looking on mat-web provided data on only 316L (the low carbon version of 316) w/ various amounts of cold work...

go to: www.matweb.com

Search for 316ss or 316L or t-300 series stainless.

the best data looks like its from Carpenter adn on their BIO-DUR (registered) alloy, wich is especially clean for ultimate corrosion resistance....

You should be able to get the supplie (vendor) to provide A2LA accredited tensile test results of anything you want to buy....

mcguire should be along in a bit and have some more info....
