Question:

Is there anyway (or any program) that would allow multiple users to access the same assembly and work on it at the same time?

As you know- if you open an assembly that has been opened by someone else on your network - you can only open the file read only and any changes you make are lost.

RE: LAN network for collaborative work

What you desire is not possible in SolidWorks.  It's also noy possible in MS Word either.  That's a hint as to what is possible.

RE: LAN network for collaborative work

Quicksilver DDM is a PDM package that allows sort of an automated transfer of write rights(!)to a particular PART contained in an assembly.

Operator A has an assembly open.
Operator B opens the assy read only.
Operator B calls for write access to a part within the assy.
Operator A decides to relinquish these rights.
Operator B makes changes to the part and releases rights back to A.
Operator A reloads the part to see the changes.
