Need Clarification - Branching in Jacketed Pipe Systems

Need Clarification - Branching in Jacketed Pipe Systems

(OP)
Hello.

I have a couple of questions about branching in a jacketed pipe system.  I am referencing jacketed pipe specifications created by the PIP (Process Industry Practices) organization.  In each of the PIP jacketed specs that I am using (four), there are two separate branch tables with the following titles:
  • 90 degree branch connection – Core vents, drains, and instrument connections only
  • 90 degree branch connection - Jacket on core branch (to be used with core vent, drain, and instrument connection table)

Additionally, there is a note (16) in each of the specs that reads as follows:

Core branch connections should consist of tees, reducers, and/or reducing tees except in the case of vents, drains, and instrument connections, where branch welds are permitted per the branch connection tables.

Now, with all of the background information out of the way, here are my questions.
  • Does the inclusion of these branch rules and this note mean that, for a core branch of a given header NPD x branch NPD combination, the branch component (or weld) used might differ depending on whether the branch is a "normal" core branch versus a core branch used specifically for vent, drain or instrument connection purposes?
  • If so, would the jacket branch face the same situation - differing branch component depending on the purpose of the core branch (the note mentions nothing about the jacket, yet one of the two branch tables addresses the jacket covering the core branch)?

Sorry this is to lengthy and somewhat unclear.  Thanks in advance for any response.
