Creating blocks in Autocad

Creating blocks in Autocad

Creating blocks in Autocad

(OP)
Does anyone know if it is possible to create a world block in Autocad without saving the layer attribute.  I would like to be able to insert a block and have it assigned to the layer I am working in without bringing the original layer the block was created in.  I know I can explode the block and change attributes, but I am looking for a way around it.  In large drawings with many blocks, I end up working with so many layers because of this.  Any help would be appreciated.

A block created on layer 0 will assume all the layer paramters of the current layer when inserted.

Changing the elements color and linetype to BYBLOCK, will allow user to change the color and linetype of the inserted block without exploding.

R2002 allows REFEDIT to redefine blocks on the fly.
